SJC Sukkot Potluck

Saturday, October 11, 2025 19 Tishrei 5786

11:00 AM - 12:30 PMBear Creek neighborhood of Redmond (exact location disclosed upon registration)

Come join the Circle in the great outdoors for a secular humanistic Sukkot celebration to ring in the fall ๐Ÿ‚ sure to be fun for the whole family!

Sukkah: Together, we'll build our sukkah (lit. booth) in the ancient tradition, using fallen branches and leaves from the nearby trees and trails to give it form, and then decorating what we build to breathe life into it with color and personality! Bringing your own handmade crafts/dรฉcor is strongly encouraged! Ribbons, electric tealights, flowers, ornaments...add a piece of yourself to the sukkah! Let's make it our own! ๐Ÿ’–

Ritual: Once built, we'll stand inside our sukkah as a community and conduct an interactive, secular humanistic lulav and etrog ritual, followed by, of course, food! ๐Ÿ‘€

Potluck: As Sukkot, at its core, is a harvest festival in the vein of Thanksgiving, attendees are encouraged to bring food and/or non-alcoholic refreshments to share for the community potluck! Ingredients CardsPrintable Version | Fillable Version ] must be filled out for each dish, to accommodate those with dietary sensitivities and restrictions.

FAQ: What distinguishes a traditional Sukkot celebration from a secular humanist one?

Amenity information:

  • Furry family members on leashes are allowed and encouraged! Bring the whole family!
  • On-site animal farm/petting zoo for kids
  • On-site playground
  • Scenic walking trails

Accessibility information:

  • There are paved walking paths between the road, parking lots and bathrooms, but just a gravel path to the picnic shelter. Overall, this is a very flat park with little to no hills or uneven ground.
  • Both gendered and gender neutral restrooms are available on-site, but the ones closest to our picnic shelter are not the gender-neutral ones.
  • This event will be outdoors in OCTOBER, so dress prepared! We recommend bringing a jacket, comfortable shoes you don't mind getting wet, and umbrella!
  • As this event is outside, sensory safe spaces (from sound, light, smells and close contact) are not available on-site.
  • Park has its own large, free on-site parking lot with a handful ADA spaces near the entrance (to the park itself from the lot, not to the street).
  • Park serviced by public transit route 250, but closest bus stop to the park is still about a 20min walk from that stop. Carpooling is encouraged! (Request a to join a carpool in your registration form!)
