SJC Hanukkah Celebration

Sunday, December 29, 2024 28 Kislev 5785

5:00 PM - 8:00 PMNorthlake neighborhood of Seattle (exact address provided upon registration)

Join the Circle this holiday season for a joyous community Hanukkah candle-lighting, singing, home-made latkes, and a potluck meal! Doors will open at 5pm.

BYOM (Bring Your Own Menorah)! We will have plenty of dreidels and gelt for everyone, but we encourage attendees to bring their own menorah, candles and lighter/matches. We will all be lighting our menorahs together as a community!

Holiday Jukebox: As is SJC tradition, we'll sing along as a community to our favorite new and traditional Hanukkah music immediately following candle-lighting, and of course, we'll need some music to play before and after the lighting to set the holiday mood! Have any favorite Hanukkah songs in mind you'd like to hear? Send in your song selections!

This is a community potluck event! Attendees are encouraged to bring a potluck dish or non-alcoholic beverage to share, so long as you include a full ingredients list. You are encouraged to include your contact info if you are comfortable with people reaching out to you about your recipe!

Home-made latkes! Jeff Treistman will be leading a team of volunteers in the SJC tradition of frying fresh latkes for the event. Bring your appetite!

Volunteers make our events possible! If you're willing to help us set up, decorate, or fry latkes, please plan to arrive by 4pm.

FAQ: What distinguishes a traditional Hanukkah celebration from a secular humanist one?

Not sure what to prepare or order? Traditional foods for Hanukkah include latkes (fried potato pancakes) with applesauce and/or sour cream, sufganiyot (jelly-filled donuts), brisket, and rugelach (baked pastries rolled up around choice of filling, usually sweet). The theme of the holiday is "oil" so you can't go wrong with anything fried! Most people forget to bring non-alcoholic drinks, so those are wonderful as well!

Donation Information

SJC is a volunteer-run, donation-funded nonprofit. Your donations will help us recoup the costs of hosting this event for the community, including venue rental, cooking ingredients/supplies and tableware, and decorations/ritual items.

Give the gift of community: Any additional funds paid beyond the suggested amount will cover those who cannot afford the full amount due to hardship, but still wish to attend.
